Jessi’s Christmas Wish List-Top Five Books I Need From 2014

The Stories Life of AJ FikryThe Storied Life of A.J. Fiery, Gabrielle Zevin

A grump, a bookstore, and a toddler that opens his heart. Well, this story sounds adorable. This sap may need a tissue box or two. My hope is that the characters are just as quirky and charming as I imagine they should be.

The Blood of OlympusHeroes of Olympus, Book Five: The Blood of Olympus, Rick Riordan

Okay, you caught me! I own this book. I have been faithfully reading Rick Riordan’s series forever. However, there’s been a bit procrastinating with this final book, because sometimes I just can’t let go of a series! As an excuse to keep this series alive, I’ve been lending out this book to everyone I know. That way, it won’t sit on my bookshelf in judgement. I’ll get to you, book, darn it! Or, maybe I can stretch this series into lasting me a couple years more.

How to Build a GirlHow to Build a Girl, Caitlin Moran

This cover caught my eye with it’s Bell Jar-esque appearances. What I know about Caitlin Moran could fill a thimble (or a surprisingly lacking Wikipedia page), but after reading the synopsis I want to get to know her. Like, now.

War SlangWar Slang: American Fighting Words & Phrases Since the Civil War, Paul Dickson

My parents gave me Dickson’s book, Authorisms: Words Wrought by Writers because I’m slightly obsessed with origins of words and phrases and all things colloquial. Combine that with my love of history? I think we have a winner, folks.

The Book With No PicturesThe Book With No Pictures, B.J. Novak

How about “the reason I want this book without words”? Gimme.
