Prepare Yourself for Summer’s Hottest (Hopefully) New TV Series!

UPDATE: Starz announced on May 8 that the 16-episode first season of Outlander will premiere Saturday, August 9 at 9PM ET/PT.

If you’re a fan of historical fiction brimming with attention to accurate detail, fully realized characters, exciting drama and time travel, you might already know about Diana Gabaldon’s wildly popular Outlander series – and that it’s being adapted for television. STARZ will premiere the first season of Outlander this summer, and I, for one, am ridiculously excited.

And now it’s good to see that I’m not the only one. Along with the latest official trailer, STARZ recently revealed the new Outlander Community, a website that brings together all promotional and super-fan social media interaction in one handy little news feed.

The Outlander marketing team is doing a great job of reaching out to fans who both sincerely appreciate the book’s literary merits and also freak the hell out over the swooniness of character James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser (just search their #JAMMF tag to experience the delightful hilarity). Plus all of the casting and set photos look fabulous, so I’m hopeful that the writers and directors and everyone else involved do this thing right and impress both book fans and newcomers.

I’m assuming the first season will follow the first book in the series. For those who haven’t read any of the books, here’s the gist: Claire Randall is a WWII combat nurse who is mysteriously transported to 18th century Scotland, where she falls in with some highlanders who are unknowingly gearing up for the Second Jacobite Rebellion. With no way to return to her own time and family (including her husband, Frank), Claire gets caught up in the Scottish clans’ business, especially that of the aforementioned Jamie Fraser.

Watch the latest trailer up top and then visit the Outlander Community to check it all out! The premiere date has yet to be announced, but it’s expected some time this summer.
